A husband & wife design team who aspire to inspire life-long learning through critical thought and a sense of adventure through local travel.
The Ville breeds ‘em differently, and we both grew up in Fayetteville, North Carolina influenced heavily by hip-hop & skate culture. After graduating from Seventy-First High School (c/o 1999 & 2002, respectively), life landed us in Philly following our respective undergraduate studies in pursuit of graduate degrees, and for ten broke summers he supported her as she earned a Ph.D. in Kinesiology from Temple University (c/o 2013), then she supported him as he earned a M.S. in Global Fashion Enterprise from the former Philadelphia University (c/o 2018). Alongside, as southerners moved north, we strove to carve our niche in the City of Brotherly Love.
Long before the leap to Philly, in North Carolina he ironed choir cuffs as a kid in his grandmother’s shop: Cole’s Tailoring, and she earned a vocational degree in computer science in high school. Once in Philly he …and as relief from writing her dissertation—GRIN 2B SNPs and Genetic Associations to Concussive Recovery—she taught herself to sew and their bulldog to skateboard. Together, in 2012, we established Bright Manor & Co. after failing to find the faces, fits, and palettes we favored in the industry.
Bright Manor & Co.
Bright Manor blossomed during the following four years of crafting our voice and fine-tuning our talents in brand consultation, styling, design & photography, and in homage to the tailor, now we write, travel, and handcraft art//wear in Oakland.
Each season, we fashion a limited edition episode of garments. After weaving our thoughts during a garment’s design, our pieces are typically imbued with ambiguity: a kind of chaotic minimalism, coupled with a fascination of merging color and texture, gives a decorative depth to our habiliments, while the potential of each of his pieces becoming one of mine enhances the actual depth of my wardrobe—creating a “sharedrobe” of sorts.
We launched on the east coast and have since settled out west with the hope of becoming a staple to a brigade of clients wanting to invest in the creation of tailored garments and a balanced home-life living like a local.
