Bright Lights & Love
A journey rooted in love, ours began back as high school sweethearts and flourished into a brand built by theBRIGHTS in an effort to spread love, foster thought, & keep you fly:
The Ville breeds ‘em differently and we both grew up in Fayetteville, North Carolina heavily influenced by hip-hop, skate culture, and rap videos. After graduating from Seventy-First High School (c/o 1999 & 2002, respectively), life landed us in Philly following our respective undergraduate studies (him: BA in Sociology from Fayetteville State University c/o 2008; her: BA in Exercise & Sport Science & BA in African, African American, & Diaspora Studies at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill c/o 2007) in pursuit of graduate degrees (his: MS in Global Fashion Enterprise from the former Philadelphia University c/o 2018; her: PhD in Kinesiology from Temple University c/o 2013), and as southerners moved north, we strove to carve our own niche in the City of Brotherly Love.
Long before completing his Master’s in Global Fashion Enterprise, he ironed choir cuffs as a kid in his grandmother’s shop—Cole’s Tailoring—in North Carolina. As relief from writing her dissertation—GRIN 2B SNPs and Genetic Associations to Concussive Recovery—she taught herself to sew and their bulldog to skateboard in Philly. Together we established Bright Manor & Co. in 2012 after failing to find the faces, fits, and palettes we favored in the industry.
Bright Manor blossomed during the following four years of crafting our voice and fine-tuning our talents (him: brand consultation, styling, design; her: photography & film, digital graphics, design) and in homage to the tailor, we handcraft art//wear. After weaving our thoughts during a garment’s design, our pieces are typically imbued with ambiguity: a kind of chaotic minimalism, coupled with a fascination of merging color and texture, giving a decorative depth to our habiliments, while the potential of each of his pieces becoming one of mine enhances the actual depth of my wardrobe—creating a “sharedrobe” of sorts.
// SHAREDROBE: that sweet spot in the closet where his clothes become mine //
We launched on the east coast and have since settled out west with the hope to become a staple to a bridge of clients wanting to invest in the creation of tailored garments, a personalized education, & dope designs. We practice slow fashion, coupled with conscious design customized for conscious consumers thereby bringing about conscious change in the industry and beyond...
